About Traffic Snitch
Democratising road safety data for UK communities
Our Mission
To give every UK community access to affordable, continuous traffic monitoring - providing the evidence needed to secure road safety improvements, without the cost of council surveys or the volunteer burden of Community Speedwatch.
For too long, communities concerned about speeding have faced a frustrating choice: expensive one-off council surveys that cost hundreds or thousands of pounds, or volunteer-intensive Community Speedwatch schemes that struggle to recruit and retain participants.
Traffic Snitch offers a third way. Our affordable monitoring devices provide 24/7 traffic data collection, capturing natural driver behaviour without the visible presence that changes how people drive. The result is authentic, continuous data that local authorities can trust.
Why We Built This
Traffic Snitch was born from frustration with the status quo. Traditional traffic surveys are expensive, infrequent, and easily gamed by drivers who spot the equipment. Community Speedwatch requires a constant stream of volunteers willing to stand roadside in all weather conditions.
We believed there had to be a better way. Using affordable radar technology and modern web platforms, we've created a system that any community can deploy and maintain. Our focus isn't on enforcement - it's on gathering the evidence that proves the need for change.
Our Values
Privacy Conscious
We don't use ANPR or capture registration numbers. Side-profile photos avoid driver faces and number plates.
Evidence for Change
We help communities gather compelling evidence to make the case for traffic calming measures and speed limit reviews.
Affordable Access
Traffic monitoring shouldn't require a large budget. Our hardware costs a fraction of traditional solutions.
Community Owned
Your device, your data. Communities retain full ownership and control of their monitoring equipment.
How It Works
Each Traffic Snitch device uses professional-grade radar technology to detect vehicle speeds. The data is transmitted securely to our cloud platform, where it's processed and made available through an intuitive dashboard.
Key Features
- Professional radar technology
- Power over Ethernet (PoE)
- 24/7 continuous monitoring
- Secure cloud data transmission
- Real-time dashboard access
- GDPR compliant design
The Hartland Pilot
Our first community deployment is in Hartland, North Devon - a village that has long struggled with speeding traffic. The pilot is gathering real-world data to demonstrate what affordable community monitoring can achieve.
The goal is to provide Hartland with the evidence needed to approach Devon County Council about traffic calming measures, speed limit reviews, or Vehicle Activated Signs (VAS). This pilot will prove the model that other communities can follow.
In Devon, speeding concerns are assessed through the SCARF (Speed Compliance Action Review Forum) process - a joint initiative between the Council and Devon & Cornwall Police. Our data helps communities build evidence-based cases for these assessments.
